NDIS Amendment Bill is now law

The NDIS Amendment (Getting the NDIS Back on Track) Bill 2024 was passed by Parliament on 22 August 2024. The Bill has received Royal Assent and will come into effect on 3 October 2024.

The National Disability Insurance Agency has provided a summary of legislative changes. They will progressively update the information on this page to explain what the changes mean, when they will impact you and how you can get ready.

While some changes will take effect on 3 October 2024, many of the changes will be implemented through new NDIS Rules, which set out the details of how the scheme operates. Rules will be implemented in stages over time. For up-to-date information about the changes, go to the NDIS website

One of these rules is the draft lists of NDIS supports. The Summer Foundation provided a submission to the Australian Government’s consultation on NDIS supports. This is now available on our website

In a recent article for The Conversation, Summer Foundation CEO Dr Di Winkler and strategic advisor Dr George Taleporos also wrote about this issue. They argue that though a detailed list may seem pragmatic to contain costs, it could force people with disability away from mainstream settings to use more costly, segregated services.
