Information, support and connections:
A roadmap for your housing journey project

Navigating housing is challenging for NDIS participants. Conflicted, confusing and complex information means that many participants don’t know what they’re entitled to under the NDIS, or how to take the first (or next) step in choosing where, how and with whom they live.

The Summer Foundation’s Housing Hub team has extensive experience in developing innovative tools and resources to support participants in their home and living journeys, employing people with lived experience, and engaging regularly with NDIS participants and their close supporters to understand their information needs, and co-design tools and resources.

What is this project about?

Funded under the National Disability Insurance Agency’s (NDIA) second round of home and living demonstration projects titled “Empowering participants: Information, assistance and connections”, the project will co-design a housing journey roadmap, tools and resources that will support participants to navigate a housing journey, build awareness of the options available to them, learn how to take action, and build confidence and capacity to progress goals.

Why is this project needed?

There is a lack of high quality and independent information that can be trusted, and working out where to find that information can be challenging.  The Support Coordinator and Local Area Coordinator workforce has limited housing specific knowledge, meaning that participants need a trusted and complete source of information to help with their housing journey.

Co-design with NDIS participants

The concept of a housing journey roadmap came from recent listening sessions and co-design workshops, where we asked participants and supporters about the resources, information and support they require to support their housing journeys, and how they would like to access it.

The project will bring together people with disability to co-design the housing journey roadmap, identify the resources and tools that they use and trust, and design new resources where required.  We will also be working with participants to design and deliver workshops that will help them and their supporters use the roadmap, and to better access the information and support that they need.

What will the outcomes of this project be?

A co-designed housing journey roadmap that brings together trusted resources and tools in a simple and accessible manner, to help participants navigate their housing journey

A series of workshops delivered to participants and supporters to demonstrate how to use the roadmap, and to connect with additional support where required

An opportunity for participants to connect with a team of paid NDIS participants who have been through their own housing journeys, to ask questions, get tips and build confidence to take action
